Design for
Unique Livability

We approach all projects using a design first approach, also known as outcome based design. We believe that the features of the physical environment we interact with on a daily basis have a major impact on our quality of life. So that is how we begin, by asking you about your daily life, and what’s important to you. How you will ultimately use the space is key. It is the first step in designing a forever home that functions perfectly, yet is completely compatible with your personal design aesthetic.

Testimonials

highly recommended

John from corvallis

Ben did a marvelous repair job for me on an aging home that had serious rotting problems. First of all he was able to identify ALL of the problem and then worked steadily till everything was completely fixed to my satisfaction. Plus he’s a delightful person to work with. I have nothing but good to say. Highly recommended!

amazing renovations

Katie from corvallis

Ben has been absolutely wonderful to work with. We recently moved in to town, we knew we wanted something we could afford to renovate and while we were looking at homes Ben joined us and gave us ideas and advice free of charge. This was SO helpful! Once we found the perfect house, Ben did an amazing job with the initial round of renovations. He removed a wall (which entailed pouring a new footing because it was a load-bearing wall), refinishing wood floors, re-plastering walls and painting. He was prompt, courteous, efficient, fun to work with, and most important he charged us exactly what he proposed initially and came in perfectly on budget. We are very excited to start the next more extensive round of renovations with him soon!

highest recommendation possible

kathy from Albany

Several years ago, my husband and I relocated from Corvallis to Albany. We are retired and while we love our new home, the kitchen needed a “face-lift”. Originally, I thought it would be a simple task. After all, I watch all those remodel shows on television and it looked like something I’d really enjoy. I’d pick out the counters, backsplash, etc. and hire workers to install them.

I soon discovered that remodeling a kitchen is much more than picking out products. Picking out the products was the easy part. Getting vendors to respond to calls or give you bids was impossible. It was much more complex that I could have imagined.

After thoughtful consideration and suggestions from friends, we decided to hire a contractor. Finding the right person to coordinate the demolition, electricians, plumbers, and installers is a key element to a successful remodel. Plus, it’s important to have a “connection” with your contractor;  someone who seems to understand your vision.

Following several interviews with contractors, a friend recommended Ben Stiehl, owner of Custom Craft Homes. He came to our home and within the first five minutes, I knew he was the one for our remodel. He asked thoughtful questions, listened to our concerns, and seemed to truly care what we were hoping to accomplish. Plus, we liked him.

When we started considering dates for the remodel, we mentioned an upcoming trip we had planned. We asked if it would be possible to have the construction done while we were out of town. He assured us that he could coordinate the construction to coincide with our absence.

Ben came over several times for confirmation of the job details, to take measurements, bring his cabinet maker, etc. His demeanor instilled confidence, professionalism, conscientiousness, and trust. Never for a minute did we doubt giving him the key to our home and the authorization to demolish and rebuild our kitchen.

On the morning we were to leave town, Ben and his crew arrived to start the demolition. I had mentioned that I wanted to take a hammer to the granite counter tops. He handed he a very large hammer and told me to smash away. It was spectacular!! I did some serious damage. I found it very thoughtful that he remembered that I wanted to smash the counter.

While away, we received daily text updates of the remodel, with comments and pictures. No inquiry on my part seemed to be negatively received. If we didn’t understand what was happening, Ben would take the time to explain it to us in layman’s terms.

Many people will tell you how horrid a remodel is. Our experience was just the opposite. Ben and his crew were thorough, accurate, timely, and professional. I would hire Ben Stiehl again in a minute and give him the highest recommendation possible.

ALWAYS available

Elizabeth  from corvallis

I got along with Ben right when I met him. He came out to our job site and explained everything he could help us with in a very polite, clear and professional manner. He was ALWAYS available whenever we had questions, even if I had already asked those questions! Ben is extremely knowledgeable in every department of the building process, from what materials should be used to what phase comes next to finishing touches. He was very helpful and continually let us know what we needed to start planning for next. I’m so happy to have gotten to work with him and plan to have him help us build our next house!

work of art

Alan from philomath

Ben possesses that rare combination of academic training coupled with years of skilled carpentry expertise. His command of design concepts from the practical to the aesthetic is phenomenal.

Ben recently finished a beautiful post and beam timber structure for us and the project truly is a work of art. I cannot recommend Ben highly enough!
